Ireland Craft Beers

Metalman Brewing

Co. Waterford

Metalman Brewing from Waterford, born of a desire to see more beer produced by independent brewers in Ireland and is the brain-child of a couple of beer enthusiasts who were frustrated by the lack of availability and choice of flavoursome, authentically Irish beer. Inspired by some of the other small Irish brewers, they eventually decided to try and help do something about it.

Business plans were written, torn up, and written again. Locations were scouted, breweries were visited, and – of course – various different beers were sampled to ensure they were researching the correct product portfolio! Gráinne called time on her I.T. career in Jan 2011 to focus full-time on establishing the brewery, while Tim did the honourable thing and stayed put at the day-job to pay the bills.

The first beer, Metalman Pale Ale, was brewed under contract at the White Gypsy Brewery in Templemore, and launched in March 2011 to a great reception. The Waterford brewery was commissioned at the Tycor Business Centre (eventually) and production was moved across in May 2012. Tim finally gave in and jumped ship from the rat-race in April 2013 to don his wellies full-time.

By the end of 2014, the workforce had grown and Metalman Brewing made the big decision to install a canning line in the Tycor Brewery. 2015 saw Metalman Brewing become the first microbrewery in Ireland to package its beer in cans, on-site in Waterford. To date, a number of different beers have been packaged in 330ml cans, with plans to release more in the pipeline. It was also the year in which the brewhouse upscaled to enable bigger batches of new and exciting beers to be brewed. Now, the Metalman team will continue to grow to ensure only the best is going out to their customers.
