Posted By Colin Brannigan on June 21, 2016

At a mere 18 months in operation, Ireland Craft Beers Ltd had the honour of receiving The Irish News, Entrepreneurial Spirit Award last week. It was a humbling and proud moment for all involved, and an amazing feeling to have our hard work over the last year and a half, recognised and rewarded at this prestigious event.

Hosted by The Irish News who were celebrating their 10th anniversary of the awards, the event was held at the iconic Titanic in Belfast with a record number of attendees. We were wined and dined for the evening, and had the pleasure of receiving a keynote address from Chris Hazzard, Minister for Infrastructure of Northern Ireland, alongside a fantastic presentation from Northern Ireland-born entrepreneur Alyson Hogg, founder of Vita Liberata tanning technology, who shared her phenomenal success story.

As mentioned above, our award was called the ‘Entrepreneurial Spirit Award’. According to Forbes Magazine, Entrepreneurial Spirit:

“is a mind-set. It's an attitude and approach to thinking that actively seeks out change, rather than waiting to adapt to change. It's a mindset that embraces critical questioning, innovation, service and continuous improvement.”

Our entry submission titled: Prosperity through the Pint, detailed the exporting economics alongside Irish ancient brewing traditions, indicating opportunity and success factors achieved since inception. Award-winning BBC journalist Karen Patterson, gave the audience an overview of the essence of our business, introducing us as:

“The Company with a ‘Those who say they can attitude…’ taken from our positive ethos and work-ethic to always go above and beyond in business”.

Since launching our company in 2014 we have expanded from three to five employees, our portfolio of breweries / distilleries has expanded from 7 to 16 in the last twelve months. Our Irish Craft Beer from the breweries we work alongside, are now being enjoyed throughout the UK, Denmark and France as a result of the efforts of the Ireland Craft Beer team. We have also just returned from a New York City trade mission, helping us shape some vital connections for the next big step in our company.

Entrepreneurial Spirit is something Ireland Craft Beer Ltd has in abundance, we are innovative and continually seeking to improve, learn, expand, but most of all have fun. A famous quote by Richard Branson really resonates with ICB, Branson says:

“to me, business isn't about wearing suits or pleasing stockholders. It's about being true to yourself, your ideas and focusing on the essentials.”

The bottom line is, we love beer and we want Irish Beer to be enjoyed worldwide. We love the products we export and the people behind the brewery, and as long as we continue being true to ourselves we hope to continue in striving alongside those we work with best.

We are very grateful to The Irish News for giving us this recognition and would like to finish with a big Thank You to all who we have worked with and have gotten behind us so far. It has given us the boost we need to keep going further and keep pushing great Irish Artisan Produce into the Global Market Place to compete with the best the world has to offer.
